Diamonds beat a young Northampton Town side 3–1 in a rearranged pre-season friendly at The Dog and Duck, Wellingborough.
Returning Ben Diamond notched his fourth pre-season goal in just the second minute heading home from a corner. Diamonds impressive first half display was rewarded with a second goal before half-time. Joel Gyasi broke away and crossed for Tom Lorraine to tap in for his fourth in pre-season.
Cobblers had largely the better of the second half with one particularly close effort deflected just wide.
Diamonds were solid in defence though and managed the game well before adding a third on 72 mins. Matt Slinn’s excellent free-kick was turned into his own net by Josh Flanagan with Alex Collard closing in. Cobblers were awarded an 88th minute penalty which Joseph Mills converted for a 3–1 final score.
A crowd of 690 enjoyed an excellent game of football and respected a minute’s silence for the much missed Max Griggs.
